This drawing is inspired by the story of the adventurer Anthony Knivet who was a prisoner of the Portuguese in 1590.
He was forced to use a diving suit (like in the image) to recover some lost artillery pieces from the bottom of the Ocean.
He almost died and later lived for a while in Lisbon (until 1602)
